I started off an electrician’s mate,
wartime apprentice to a decent bloke.
Then British Nylon, Courtaulds for a spate
until wet-spinning stenches made me choke.
Of course, when married, we all gave up work.
Though, ‘work’ was hard as mother and as wife,
we never stopped – no time for us to shirk.
I’ve had odd office jobs all through my life
with Whitley’s (secret weapons), G.E.C
